Report from Barnet Sprint Meet - September 2016
by Martin Appleby

For those of you who didn't make the Barnet Copthall Sprint Meet last week, here's what you missed........

Your team brought home 33 medals including 12 golds:

  • Joe - 4 gold, 1 silver
  • Karen B - 2 gold, 5 silver
  • Martin - 2 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze
  • Chris S - 2 gold, 1 silver
  • Roy - 1 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze
  • Ray - 1 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze
  • Paul -  1 silver, 1 bronze (well, he was in the toughest age-group!)
We may have been beaten hollow by the home team due to our lack of numbers but we put on a good show. The competition also featured Jane Asher who won a World Record in the 50m Butterfly (55.67secs) and a British record in the 50m Breaststroke (59.86) -she is now in the 85-89 year age group and has collected many British records. She swims with perfect style past competitors many years her junior and is an inspiration to watch.

The following unofficial award nominations for your team are as follows:

  • Karen B "For entering so many races that she had no time to dry off between events"
  • Paul "For giving his all, and then some"
  • Ray "For initiating a backstroke turn by head-butting the wall"
Join in the fun at the next Barnet Copthall meet - Its the 1500m on the 26th and 27th November (and that's not because it takes 24 hours to complete). Think of it as a short training session. They even count the lengths for you. Just a good dive, 60 lengths and you're done.....
