Congratulations to Paul C on bringing back two gold medals from the South East England Short Course Championships. It was worth the slog around the M25 to be RNSC's solo representative at this event. Good strategy resulted in good finishes in both of Paul's races. Paul was particularly pleased with his 200m race, finishing strongly and overtaking the 2nd place. He was also rewarded with PBs for both, and managed to overtake his long-standing rival in the Swim England rankings.
Well done Paul!
For those interested, the two full sessions were livestreamed and are available on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3O3mrKq5xo&t=3344s www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVCwFrZhj2o Paul's races were events 5 and 21 on the videos. The 'triple crown' of open water swimming is a marathon swimming challenge consisting of three historically important swims:
Having previously completed the English Channel and Manhattan 20 Bridges, Mark Johansen has now completed the triple crown with a successful swim of the Catalina Channel. Read on for Mark’s fascinating account of this amazing achievement… After a one-man showing at last week's Berks and South Bucks meet it was good to have a team of five represent RNSC Masters at Sunday's Barnet Copthall Sprint meet.
As usual the meet was well organised and well attended. The organiser, Ian Woollard was briefly caught off-guard when, at the start of a pre-arranged event, he announced 'Over to you Referee', and the officials and competitors burst into song - Happy Birthday Ian! On to the 'serious stuff'....... Between us we did 23 races. Here's our medal haul:
Full results: On Tuesday evening Roger and Martin presented their first half hour 'Tech Session'.
Roger's team practised their dive starts from the blocks and sprint techniques. Sprint times were recorded for those taking part. Martin's group of six dissected the technical elements of backstroke, looking to find changes which would improve their technique and pace. Watch out for details of next month's session on Tuesday 10th October (and let Roger and Martin have any feedback for the content of future sessions). Martin was the sole RNSC representative at this meet. Sadly the meet was not well supported this year, and with no challengers in his age group, he came away with 5 gold medals by beating no one!
Congratulations to Sarah for completing the Thames half-marathon swim.
This is an 'approx' 5.5km swim starting from a point above Hurley and finishing in Marlow. Sarah completed the swim in 1:54 for a distance of 5.7km. Congratulations to Motoko and Stuart who both completed the half ironman triathlon at Holkham in Norfolk.
The race comprised:
Motoko finished in 6:44.06, and Stuart in 6:09.46 An amazing achievement - well done to both! |
