We were saddened to learn that Christine passed away last month shortly before her 60th birthday – please see the Facebook message from the family below. "Unfortunately, we write to share the heartbreaking news of Christine’s passing in the early hours of Sunday morning. She was at home and surrounded by family. Her decline over the past few weeks took us all by surprise. But that was Christine all over - determined to stay alive but then determined to go when she accepted it was time. She was the definition of resilience. |
Congratulations to Jenny for completing the London Marathon in a time of 4:10.16.
"The crowds were amazing and I am so happy with the day. Thanks to all that have sponsored me." The 'triple crown' of open water swimming is a marathon swimming challenge consisting of three historically important swims:
Having previously completed the English Channel and Manhattan 20 Bridges, Mark Johansen has now completed the triple crown with a successful swim of the Catalina Channel. Read on for Mark’s fascinating account of this amazing achievement… Congratulations to Sarah for completing the Thames half-marathon swim.
This is an 'approx' 5.5km swim starting from a point above Hurley and finishing in Marlow. Sarah completed the swim in 1:54 for a distance of 5.7km. Congratulations to Motoko and Stuart who both completed the half ironman triathlon at Holkham in Norfolk.
The race comprised:
Motoko finished in 6:44.06, and Stuart in 6:09.46 An amazing achievement - well done to both! Mark and I completed the crossing of the La Bocaina strait, Lanzarote to Fuerteventura, 15.2km in a time of 4 hours and 52 minutes. It was so lovely to be able to swim alongside each other. Our pace was perfectly matched. We were blessed with perfect conditions and saw two turtles enroute. What was not so great was the 4.45am get up to get to the start in time but worth it in the end. We were lucky enough to have been able to arrange a support boat with the help of Paul and Angela from Swim Lanzarote. Today we managed a 2k swim in the sea and then treated ourselves to a sports massage which turned out to be tougher than the swim itself!
I was swimming for Pancreatic Cancer UK in support of Christine Thomas, a previous member of the club who was diagnosed in June 2021 with the disease. I would like to thank everyone from the club who has kindly donated so far. This is really appreciated and I have managed to beat my target of £500.
