Presentation evening 2026

31/1/2026

We returned to Harefield Cricket Club for our annual presentation evening this year.

Firstly, Martin gave us a reminder of the points awarded for competing over the whole year, followed by the presentation of trophies by Paul our Chairman. Roy topped the table again for the men with an impressive tally of points, and Lynda crept ahead of a tightly contested table for the women’s trophy - many congratulations to them and everybody else who competed this year. Full results can be seen here.

Next, Roger presented the award for the Most Improved Swimmer. This year it went to Binny, who has been moving up the lanes since returning from a break and increasing the number of times she swims a week. The award for Dedication to Swimming went to Helen, who has taken herself off to swimming workshops, adopted new techniques, and trained for long-course competitions in a 50m pool, as well as attending regular training sessions. Well done to both winners.

The Challenge Cup, given for achievements not necessarily in swimming, went jointly to Joelie, who completed a gruelling 44 mile Ultra Run along the South West Coast Path, and Stuart, who completed an amazing Ironman competition in France. Both events are reported here (Joelie) and here (Stuart), and are inspirational achievements.

The final award, the David Dines Memorial Trophy, given by our chairman for services to the club, went to Martin. Paul advised us of the multiple areas Martin is involved in, including writing and organising the schedules, co-ordinating competition entries and collating results, meeting and greeting prospective new members, repairing the pace clock and many other tasks to help keep the club running smoothly. Thank you Martin.

The buffet food supplied by the venue did not disappoint and was a chance for members to socialise with their clothes on!

Next came the time to exercise our brains not our bodies. Joelie and Rod gave us a taxing challenge to re-order six people in a line, obeying the rules of the game - a hubbub of noise ensued with an eventual winner declared while the rest of us were tying ourselves in knots. A swimming quiz proved more than a challenge and some surprising facts - who knew the world record for holding your breath under water was nearly 30 minutes?!

The well supported raffle gave us a rest - thanks to Jill and Karen for co-ordinating this - followed by another tricky tower building task and a music lyric quiz with a twist. Thanks to Rod and Joelie for the games interludes.

Thank you to everyone for attending - see you all next year.

Canal boat trip

6/9/2025

On a lovely sunny Saturday afternoon, 15 of us travelled to London’s Paddington Basin, where we
boarded two boats for a trip along the canal.

As we meandered along, soaking up the sun and tucking in to our snacks and drinks, it was great to
take in the sights of some of London’s scenery from a different perspective. We even got to see the
black and white Colobus monkeys in the old Aviary at London Zoo (now called Monkey Valley).

Big thanks to Kevin, Paul and Duncan who skippered the boats and successfully navigated us through
a couple of long dark tunnels, whilst one or two others decided to see how loud the echo would
be!

A fun and relaxing afternoon was had by all.

Treasure Trail - Harrow on the Hill

30/7/2022

Many thanks to Penny for organising the fun treasure trail around Harrow on the Hill on Saturday 30 July 2022.

What an enjoyable afternoon we had as 19 intrepid RNSC detectives searched for clues strolling around this interesting area.  The mid-way refreshment stop at The Castle came just at the right time before the final assault on St Mary’s church, the high point of the trail.  A re-grouping on the slopes of the hill once the last clue had been found gave us a chance to compare answer sheets, relax with a drink and a bite to eat.

Well done everyone!
